Turtle lay eggs on 1st Sept 2010

Watching green turtle lay eggs
Teluk Mak Nik, Kemaman, Terengganu
9.30pm - 12.30am

For the first time, daddy watch turtle lay eggs. Hahaha...He had been come here around 10+ years.

On the way back from dinner around 9pm, we received called from Pak Su. So, we went to meet him at Teluk Mak Nik. Tell the truth, I don't like reptiles as well as amphibians. So, no matter how I won't touch it. Never and ever was my first taught.

Jonathan was so brave, he don't afraid at all and hold the baby turtles and have a close look. Chloe also hold it after she noticed that it was safe.
We need to wait around 30 minutes since the turtle just started digging hole.

The turtle need to dig one big hole for itself and one small & deep hole for it eggs. We started walking through the beach and together with our nature sound of sea waves. A lots of stars twinkle twinkle in the sky. We sing the song together with soft voice. Finally, we reached where the turtle lay eggs.

There were three peoples helping Pak Su on this tour. One of the people showing us the how to know on the turtle already here. He show us the track which is still new and haven't wash by the waves. He did mentioned that if the turtle lay eggs once on the spot, she will come back here again next year. Each time the green turtle will lay 70-140 eggs.

Some of them query about how you knew the eggs sex. Pak Su told us that if the turtle lay eggs on cool area that mean hide under a tree, their eggs are male. If they lay eggs on the open area, their eggs are female.

The turtle itself did not determine the sex. Wow....I didn't knew it at all before. haha....
Another question come? The turtle pregnant 6 months before laying eggs. If the turtle already meet its Mr.Right (A) 6 months before and get pregnant. And meet another male turtle (B) after the 6 months. Her eggs are belong to Mr.A.
Nowadays, we knew that turtle eat jellyfish. Our dearly turtles in danger since the ocean polluted with a lots of rubbish especially plastic bag. Turtles wrongly taken plastic as jellyfish. As a result, the turtles population decreasing each year.

Chloe cover the turtle will sand, the turtle find the way out and follow the light.

This is our green turtle, I'm accidentally switch on the flash, sorry!

The turtle take an hour to cover the sand back before heading back to sea. She was so tired, why don't help her cover the sand back? Hehe....Pak Su answered my query again, If you help her, she still will continue cover itself for an hour. It was already programmable.

Everyone need to choose one turtle, I'm holding turtle for the first time in my life! We need to name and wish them all the best before release them back to sea. I'm asking Chloe, what name should we name it? Chloe answered "Qian Hui". Hahaha....she wish to release herself back to sea.

In the meanwhile waiting for the turtle to cover the sand back, we were heading 7 meters far from the sea. We were here to release our baby turtles back to the sea. Pak Su mentioned again, 1,000 baby turtles release back to sea, only 1-2 will grown up as a mature turtles. What happened? some of them will be eaten up by others big fish and some will lose their life to find plankton for food for the first two weeks on the ocean.
This was unforgettable trip! Chloe and Jonathan keep saying "The turtle was pity, I was so sad!" while we on the way back to hotel.
